How To Build A Garden Planter Bench / Maintenance Free Planter Boxes / DIY Outdoor Furniture

Artisan Made Truckers Cap: etsy.me/3qIwqT4

In this video tutorial, I will show you how I built these planter benches as a way to also fence in my vegetable garden. You can build this out of different kinds of materials, such as cedar, pressure-treated lumber, or composite decking like I do in this video. Composite decking is the most expensive of the three, but it requires absolutely zero maintenance. If you’re using wood, you will have to paint or use a clear coat every year to protect it from the elements. The length of the project that I have here in this video is 39 1/2 feet. It includes six planters and five benches. The braces are functional, but the curved feature is for aesthetics. You can build these planters without the curve as well since that feature does require additional tools. If you’re interested in buying the plans just know that at the time of posting this video this project (using composite decking) cost me about $1800(northeast US prices). If you want to save on the overall cost, you can use pressure-treated wood and save you about half.

    If he used epoxy rather than just silicone it might be viable. Overtime with tension from the strings it could come lose and collapse. Guitar needs a rigid structure.

    Good stuff, did you have to shrink your window due to adding 2x4 around the whole jamb? That’s 3” total lost on the extra framing.. looks good tho, I recommend using OSI quad max for the sealant, stuff is the bees knees for sealant

    Great video! Question, if you are finishing the basement should you use pressure treated wood? Just concerned about the fumes from the wood' s chemicals. Can pine be used? I would have liked to have heard more on how you determined the framing dimensions.Thanks in advance for the feedback!

    • @ArtisanMade
      @ArtisanMade 4 дні тому

      If the wood has repeated contact with moisture you should use pressure treated. I’m no expert in the science but I think with such a small amount of lumber it’s not a concern.

    How do you balance the need for thermal mass in the bottom of the oven by using refractory cement vs the insulative material like vermiculite or calcium silicate? Both vermiculite and calcium silicate are insulators and doesn’t add to the thermal mass that the oven needs. I think the best way is to cast a thick base of refractory cement then lay your bricks on that. This way you have a heat battery for long term floor heat storage….
